(I'm extremely unimpressed with this picture... it looks a fair bit better than that.. for starters the vaguely grey looking bits are actually silver and are quite sparkly).
I should probably explain what I've done here. First I glued along the pages, making sure to keep two pages at the back and front free. Then I cut out the pages with a Stanley knife, leaving the unglued ones intact. More glue was applied to the inside of the cutout part to really get the pages well and truely stuck down. Then I painted the inside and outside of the cutout bit silver and the top black. The front cover and inside loose pages I covered with fabric and then glued the loose pages to the cover to conceal all of the daggy looking bits.
So what we have here is basically a book that's been turned into a box, but really looks a little too flash to ever quite pass for a secret hidey hole (the toggle probably gives it away, but my brother pointed out that there was absolutely no way he could endorse this project if there wasn't some way of keeping the lid shut - a box that can't be kept shut being impractical and all, and hell, it looks pretty).
In other news I assembled a couple of pairs of earrings this afternoon, which I dutifully zip-lock bagged up before realising that I'll be needing to take them out to photograph them tomorrow. I've been interested in developing my own unique photography style for a while now, but somehow I don't think that photographing everything in plastic bags is really going to do the trick in getting people's attention... or at any rate, the right kind of attention. I don't want to make a name for myself as 'that person whose jewellery photos all look like crime scene evidence shots'.
Start of university semester is looming, and I suspect that that's probably going to be the end of random creative projects for a while (big sad face). It also means that I'll probably have to get back into the spirit of Proper Academic Writing, which is, I'm told, where you don't suddenly digress on random, completely untrue tangents for the sake of being entertaining.

Love your book box. Such a nifty idea. & there's nothing wrong with things being impractical. As long as they're pretty :)
The book looks much better as a book box! And I like that all the pages of drivel are glued shut forever.
I love the book-to-box idea! What a clever way to recycle old books.
I love that book box! I'm a sucker for purple and silver. Just gorgeous!
