Experimenting on the other side...

Ok, people seem to have taken some interest in the great PIF experiment on Etsy, so I thought I'd better do another quick report on how the venture is going. Approximately 48 hours in, the earrings in question are still in my shop and are now the second most viewed item I have. There was a brief period this afternoon when I quickly checked in on my shop at uni (naturally I was, of course, meant to be somewhere else at the time) and saw that they were in fact the most viewed item. It's basically taken about two days to get the same number of views I've had on my most popular item in the space of a month. Conclusion: people like looking at free things. It would also seem, just by eyeballing the numbers, that views in general seem to have increased a fair bit in the last two days. Very interesting.

I'm listing more bobby pins too...

Also, I've 'gone over to the otherside' so to speak. This is Ebay terminology for someone who lists on Oztion.com.au and seems to imply that such individuals seem to have somehow managed to ascend from the hell that is Feebay... either that or it implies that by going there they've effectively killed their business. Oztion is an Australian online auction site, similar to Ebay, and seems to be their major competitor in Australia at this point. And by major competitor I actually mean only competitor. Oztion has no listing fees, so it's quite affordable for me to list a bit of stuff over there just to see what will happen, and their final value fee of 3.9% is quite reasonable. Free listings include gallery picture, 3 photos and a subtitle - all things Ebay makes you pay extra for on top of their listing fees! Currently only sellers from Australia and New Zealand are able to list on Oztion, but buyers from all countries are welcome. Admittedly, I have heard that a lot of the time people don't sell too much over there... but one can only try, right? You can take a look at my listings thus far here. It's nowhere near as neat or fun as Etsy, but the listing process is a fair bit easier than Ebay. Honestly, I'd say something nice about Ebay if I could think of something nice to say... but I can't... so I won't.

And as I hit the publish button, I've just noticed that the PIF earrings have overtaken the cutlery earrings in the view counts again...

I've never heard of Oztion. Sounds good, especially the 'free' part of the deal! The more competition for Ebay the better. Bring it on!
